about this blog

hello, world!

this is my first blog post, mostly to serve as an example and placeholder for the future. even in its mostly-empty current state, this site is hopefully a vast improvement over what i previously had live:

yeesh.

i have no grand plans for the blog; every once in a while i might write about whatever i'm working on:

  • technology and software (backend development, deep learning)
  • music (synthesizers, ableton)
  • art (photography, 3d, and beyond)
  • whatever else i feel like

it's been a learning experience to get everything set up; i'd never really gotten into any front-end work. the basic outline of the site thus far is:

  • the Zola static site generator
  • the Tera templating system, used by Zola
  • poking around with good ol' html and css
  • in the near future, most of the One Cent Blog's approach to hosting

my philosophy for the site is to, in general, keep it as simple as possible. besides pairing nicely with my current (limited) skillset for web development, i also want to prioritize things like making everything lightning-fast even on limited internet connections (keeping the site size as small as possible and cacheable), learning about and implementing best practices for accessibility, and maybe having fallbacks for the lynx browser. i have fond memories of the early-naughties web (such as the topically-named metroid2002), and admire the straightforwardness of blogs like ferd.ca; inspirations like these will likely influence this blog's development and content.
